Sustainable development lies at the heart of what we do at Baker Associates.

Our skills and understanding of this critical issue cut across the whole of the Baker Associates team. We focus on delivering sustainable development through the town planning system.

our work

Baker Associates has valuable experience in carrying out sustainability appraisals.

We have also undertaken a wide variety of other work centering on sustainable development. This has included:

• a research paper for the South West Regional Assembly, examining ways in which barriers to delivering more sustainable and resource efficient buildings could be overcome. The paper formed part of the preparatory work on the Regional Spatial Strategy

• a Climate Change Strategy for a Local Strategic Partnership. Tthis work considers how partners can contribute to reducing the impacts of climate change

• research into planning policy for Low Impact Development in the open countryside on behalf of the Pembrokeshire National Park Authority

• a ‘Sustainability Profile’ on behalf of the North Bristol NHS Trust. This work was part of the outline planning application for proposed redevelopment at Southmead Hospital, which has since received planning permission

• work for the Environment Agency, Countryside Agency and English Nature, covering a wide variety of projects for delivering their environmental agenda through planning. This included work on flooding, the Water Framework Directive and biodiversity development plan policy. Baker Associates was also the national and south west regional call-off contractor for the Countryside Agency for six years.
